To support and strengthen recruitment into the Playwork sector, we have developed a Step into Playwork programme, providing a pathway into the Out of School Childcare Sector by promoting our offer of:  

Level 1 Introduction to Playwork: This course provides a Level 1 Unit in Playwork and offers participants a clear insight into the role and principles of Playwork practice. It is ideally suited to individuals with an interest in play or Playwork who wish to gain an introductory understanding of the sector. 

Level 1 Pathway to Playwork: A qualification delivered over 10 sessions and a work placement, building on work related education to create a qualifications equivalent to 2 GCSE’s grade D-G. Utilising Playwork Theory and practice to provide dynamic training, whilst also preparing participants for the pathway to working in the Out of School Childcare sector.  

The aim of the Level 1 Pathway to Playwork is to prepare young people for employment in the Playwork sector and support progression to either a Level 2 Apprenticeship (Level 2 Diploma in Playwork) or the Level 2 Award in Playwork Practice. 

Open to learners aged 14 and above, the Level 1 Pathway to Playwork offers an accessible progression route for those who are not yet ready to undertake a Level 2 qualification, as well as for young people under the age of 16 who are not yet eligible for the Level 2 Award in Playwork Practice.
