Awareness Days

Diwrnod Shwmae Su’mae – 15 October

Shwmae Su’mae Day takes place every year on 15 October.

The idea behind the day is simple: start conversations with “Shwmae” or “Su’mae” and encourage everyone to use a little more Welsh.

It is not just about fluent Welsh speakers. Shwmae Su’mae is for everyone – including people who are learning Welsh or who might feel a little nervous about using it.

Why not make Thursday a chance to try something different?

🎵 Put on some Welsh music

📖 Read a Welsh story

🎲 Play a Welsh game

🗣️ Learn five new Welsh phrases

🏳️ Make Welsh flags or Shwmae posters

🍴 Have a Welsh-themed snack

📱 Make a short Shwmae video with the children

And remember – you don’t need to speak perfect Welsh to use Welsh.

A simple “Shwmae!” can be the start of a conversation.
