Employers – do you have the right DBS check?
It is important as employers of those working in childcare that you make sure you have the correct level of Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) check.
As employers, whether you are the owner or are a committee member/trustee, if you are also the registered person/responsible individual, you are responsible for the supervision of your staff members and so you must have an enhanced DBS check and be checked against the barred list.
There is a section on the DBS form that makes sure this happens.
In section Y of the application you must ensure that you mark ‘working with children in regulated activity’ as ‘Yes’ by doing this you will get the correct level of DBS check in line with the National Minimum Standards.
