Shwmae Su’mae Day

Shwmae Su’mae day is celebrated annually on the 15th of October and is celebrated throughout Wales and beyond. The day aims to promote the idea of starting every conversation with shwmae, su’mae or shwdi and to show that the Welsh language belongs to us all – fluent speakers, learners or those who are little shy about their Welsh.

How to take part?

Hold your own event in your setting by hosting a Welsh coffee morning/afternoon with children and parents to practice some Welsh phrases.

Organise a Welsh disco with all things Welsh from music, party games and decorations.

Create a Shwmae Su’mae video with all the staff, children and parents taking it in turns to say Shwmae Su’mae or anything Welsh.

Hold a competition within your setting where the children create their own Shwmae Su’mae poster.
