UNCRC Article of the Month – Article 31: Each child has ‘the right to rest and play’
June and July are a great time to celebrate and advocate for each child’s right to rest and play. International Day of Play on the 11th June it’s time to start planning how you can celebrate within your Out of School Childcare Club
- Playground take overs, whatever the weather – enable Children to access large and small Play Spaces. Celebrate by taking photographs and demonstrate to parents how Children have access to freely chosen Play within your Club.
- Developing Play Spaces within the community – is there an opportunity to develop or utilise some space within your local Community? Large Playing fields or woodland areas provide great opportunities to provide new Play environments.
- Reaching out to other Clubs in your area and sharing Play Spaces within your local community. Creating a mini sports day or olympics with other Clubs in your area.
Looking ahead to lots of Summer Fun, don’t forget that rest and relaxation within Holidays can benefit Children as well as Staff and Families. Hold a community beach day or fun day in a local park. Encourage participation from your community and advocate for Children to have access to Play Spaces locally.
