Makar Sankranti – also called the Kite Flying Festival – is an important Hindu festival celebrated in almost all parts of India (although called different names) giving people a reason to come together and celebrate after the cold winter months, and celebrate the start of spring.
Visit Celebrations All Year Round Resource Pack for activity ideas:
- Make and fly your own recycled kite. Use your kites to decorate your settings along with a large sun.
- Create images of the sun by decorating disc shaped cardboard or using a paper
plate to create a frame for a yellow tissue paper sun and hang them in the window
to catch the light.
- Play a variety of different types of Indian music such as the Bollywood themes to sitar playing. You could play musical chairs at the same time.
Santes Dwynwen’s Day – 25 January
