International Day of Play (IDP) – Playground Takeover: Voting Now Open
We had an amazing number of nominations for this year’s 2026 Playground Takeover. The Clybiau Plant Cymru Kids’ Clubs team have been busy shortlisting, and the following schools have been shortlisted, now it’s over to you to vote for your favourite. There will be one winner from each region (South East Wales, West Wales & North Wales).
In South East Wales the shortlisted schools are:
- Ysgol Gynradd Gymraeg Llwyncelyn, Rhondda Cynon Taf
- Llanfair Primary School, Vale of Glamorgan
- Llanilltuid Faerdref Primary School, Rhondda Cynon Taf
In West Wales the shortlisted schools are:
- Ysgol Yr Hendy, Carmarthenshire
- Casllwchwr Primary School, Swansea
- Ysgol y Dderi, Ceredigion
In North Wales the shortlisted schools are:
- Ysgol Esgob Morgan, Denbighshire
- The Rofft School, Wrexham
- Borras Park Community Primary School, Wrexham
Every school as part of the playground takeover will have a team of playworkers bring in an array of resources and loose parts for a whole afternoon of free play on International Day of Play. IDP is a time to celebrate the power of play and recognises play as a fundamental right for children’s development, mental/physical health, social inclusion, belonging, resilience, creativity and well-being.
