Keeping Your After School Club Compliant with CIW Requirements

We know that running an After School Club involves managing many responsibilities, and we want to support providers to feel confident in meeting their duties. This is a helpful reminder for all clubs registered with Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW) that, regardless of where provision is delivered, services must continue to comply with all relevant legislation, regulations, National Minimum Standards and the conditions of their CIW registration.

CIW registration brings an ongoing responsibility to ensure that the service is operated in line with these requirements. This applies whether a club runs from a school, community venue, leisure facility or any other setting. Providers may find it useful to regularly review their policies, procedures, staffing arrangements and day-to-day practices to make sure they remain up to date and continue to support safe, high-quality care for children.

The National Minimum Standards for Regulated Childcare for children up to the age of 12 years provide a useful framework for understanding what is expected of registered childcare services. They should be read alongside relevant legislation, regulations and any conditions of registration.

If you are unsure about how the requirements apply to your setting, or would like support to review your practice, please get in touch – we are here to help. We also have a range of quality improvement toolkits that you can choose from to improve practice in various areas of your provision.
