Voucher Schemes

Voucher schemes were generally used prior to the Tax-Free Childcare option as a salary sacrifice.

Employees could pay for vouchers to fund their Childcare fees in Day Care and Out of School Club settings, prior to paying Tax on their wages (Salary Sacrifice)

These vouchers were originally paper copies and progressed to became electronically processed bank transfer payments through a voucher provider.

Did you know that you can still register your Out of School Childcare Club to accept voucher schemes from parents to enable them to pay their fees?

There were and remain quite a few providers that Out of School Childcare Clubs can become registered with to accept as payments for fees.

Families who had an account prior to the Tax-Free Childcare from HMRC launching in April 2017 can continue to use these as Childcare Payments, however anyone new was required to sign up for the Tax-Free Childcare Scheme.

Idea ……….. There could be families that have funds within vouchers and do not realise they can utilise this funding for Out of School Childcare up until a child is 15 years old, depending upon provider terms and conditions.

Supporting families to access lost or forgotten funds could support the Sustainability of your Out of School Childcare Club!

They are not permitted to use the vouchers as payments as well as the Tax-Free Childcare, however if families have dormant funds available within these schemes they may have forgotten or unaware that they can use them for their Childcare sessions.  Maybe extra sessions within Holiday Clubs.

See the links to some examples of companies that arrange vouchers, or you can contact our Development Officers if you would like some support or find out more.
