Wales moves closer to universal childcare
There has been further progress towards the expansion of funded childcare in Wales. All 22 local authorities are now on track to offer 12.5 hours of Welsh Government-funded childcare per week to all two-year-olds by the end of March 2027.
The current phase of the expansion is focused on making 12.5 funded hours available to all eligible two-year-olds, with future phases planned to increase support and extend the offer to younger children.
For childcare providers, the expansion could mean more families looking for funded childcare places, including during school holidays, so it is worth keeping an eye on developments in your local authority.
