Playing with Books and Stories

Books and stories can open a whole new world of magic and possibilities for children. As well as ensuring you have books available for children consider some of the following activities:

  • Blank comic strips / blank book pages to encourage children to write their own stories
  • Tell your own – use random pictures, or a story stick to encourage children to tell their own stories
  • Create a character or puppet from loose parts
  • Book challenge – use sentences from books as a clue for a scavenger hunt
  • Prequel challenge – get them to write what happened next for a classic tale
  • Guess the character – using only yes/no questions
  • Encourage children to do a Club newspaper
