Description

Join us this autumn for a fun, hands-on Practical Playwork session with a Welsh twist, where we’ll step back in time and explore how Wales’ rich history, stories and traditions can inspire children’s play.

This interactive session will focus on recapulative play, exploring how children naturally recreate and explore elements of human history through play. Together, we’ll take inspiration from the Celts, the Mabinogion, fire, nature, traditional skills and ancient ways of life to create playful experiences that can be adapted and taken straight back to your setting. Expect to get stuck in as we explore loose parts, imaginative play, den building, fire and sensory experiences, traditional games, storytelling and risky play, all inspired by Wales’ past. We’ll consider how simple materials and environments can spark children’s curiosity and allow them to explore themes of survival, creativity, community and adventure through their own play. As Welsh speakers ourselves, we’ll also bring the Welsh language and culture into the session, exploring how Welsh words, stories, characters and traditions can be naturally incorporated into play without taking away from the child-led experience.

This is an opportunity to get outdoors, get hands-on and perhaps see Welsh history from a completely different perspective — through the eyes of a child at play!Come prepared to explore, create, get a little muddy and travel back in time as we discover how Wales’ past can inspire children’s play today.
